Who Can Actually Move This Forward

The immediate goal here isn't asking anyone to "build SLC to PC." It's asking what needs to happen for the already-mapped Parleys Vision Corridor and the Mountain Dell–Parleys Summit Gap Closure (R2-046) to advance from a line on a map into a funded feasibility and alignment study. That's a much smaller, much more answerable question — and these are the people and bodies positioned to answer it.

Cyclists Vote.

Every name below is either elected or answers to someone who is. Showing up, in numbers, with a specific and reasonable ask, is how a mapped project becomes a funded one.

Utah Trail Network Map & Master Plan

See It Yourself First

UDOT maintains its own interactive map and master plan for the growing statewide trail network — worth a look at R2-046 and the Parleys Vision Corridor before reaching out to anyone below.

Utah Trail Network Map · Utah Trail Network Master Plan

Stephanie Tomlin

Director, UDOT Trails Division

Her team manages the Utah Trail Network and its master plan — she's closest to the actual project list and how it gets prioritized.

Ask: what it would take to move R2-046 (Parley's Trail Gap) and the Parleys Vision Corridor segment below it into a funded feasibility and alignment study.

Geoff Dupaix

UDOT Region 2 Planning Manager (Salt Lake & Summit Counties)

Region 2 covers both counties this trail would cross, and helps set regional planning priorities within UDOT.

Ask: the same question, framed regionally — this segment matters to both counties Region 2 serves.

Natalie Gochnour

Utah Transportation Commissioner, Region 2 (Salt Lake, Summit & Tooele Counties)

The Transportation Commission is what ultimately approves Utah Trail Network funding decisions.

Ask: her support for prioritizing R2-046 when the Commission considers future Trail Network funding rounds.

Spencer Cox

Governor of Utah

Sets the state's broader infrastructure and outdoor-recreation priorities, and Utah is hosting the 2034 Winter Games — a natural moment to spotlight a connection like this one.

Ask: public support for prioritizing the Parleys connection as part of the state's active-transportation push ahead of 2034.

Wasatch Front Regional Council (WFRC)

Regional Transportation Planning

WFRC's active-transportation staff and long-range regional plans shape which projects are eligible for funding on the Salt Lake side.

Ask: whether this segment is, or could be, reflected in WFRC's regional active transportation plan.

Erin Mendenhall

Mayor of Salt Lake City

The Salt Lake City portion of this corridor, and the city's own trails and complete-streets programs, fall under her administration.

Ask: whether this connection is reflected in SLC's transportation plans, and her office's support for it as a state priority.

Jenny Wilson

Mayor of Salt Lake County

Much of the corridor outside city limits — Mountain Dell, the Emigration Canyon area — falls under county jurisdiction, and the county funded the original feasibility study decades ago.

Ask: whether the county would back a renewed feasibility and alignment study, the way it did the first time.

Ryan Dickey

Mayor of Park City

Park City's trail network is the other end of this connection — local support here strengthens the case that this isn't just a Salt Lake ask.

Ask: his support for the connection as an extension of Park City's own trail system, and any interest in coordinating with Summit County on it.

Salt Lake County, Emigration Canyon & Summit County

Local Elected Officials & Planners

UDOT specifically points to local government support, and inclusion in adopted local transportation plans, as key to advancing state trail projects.

Ask: your county council member or planning staff whether this connection is reflected in local transportation or trails plans — and to formally support it if not.
